In this chapter, Baoyu, Daiyu, Baochai, Jia Yingchun, Jia Tanchun and Jia Xichun move in to the Daguanyuan. Mingyan goes to buy some books for his master. Baoyu read them nearby the water and is caught by Daiyu. Daiyu ask to read the book too and they tease each other by threatening to denounce each other to some adults for their reading. Baoyu wants to put peach-tree blossom into the lake but Daiyu propose to bury them instead. Later, when Daiyu come back home, she hear the young actors repeating their texts, and touched by it start crying and feeling dizzy. The chapter end when she feel a pat on the back.
